A reality that can’t be ignored
In a context where violence in sport is increasingly worrying, the Association des Clubs Francophones de Football (ACFF) is launching an ambitious awareness campaign: “Mettons la violence hors-jeu.” In the Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles, a study shows that one in four young people is a victim of verbal violence within their sports club—insults, threats and other verbal assaults that are only the visible part of a much wider problem.
A clear stance: everyone has a role
Rather than resigning itself, ACFF takes a firm position and calls on all actors—players, coaches, referees and spectators—to eradicate violence in all its forms, whether physical, verbal or psychological. The core message: respect is part of the rules of the game.
Calling things out to spark collective awareness
The campaign addresses people directly. Visuals and messages—shared in clubs, on the pitch and through various communication channels—highlight the seriousness of acts that too often go unnoticed or trivialised. Reminder: violence starts long before physical impact; it begins with words, attitudes and behaviours that feed a spiral of aggression.
Tools designed for lasting impact
To ensure effectiveness, several awareness tools have been developed. Posters and videos are distributed widely across ACFF-affiliated clubs, supported by clear, impactful messages that invite everyone to take responsibility. In parallel, awareness sessions are organised for young players, coaches and parents, encouraging exemplary behaviour and the reporting of violent acts when witnessed.
Public backing that strengthens the effort
The campaign benefits from the support of public authorities. The Minister-President of the Government of the Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles, Pierre-Yves Jeholet, has expressed his support, underlining the importance of coordinated action against violence in sport. Funds have been released to finance prevention and response projects, reinforcing the campaign’s impact.
From message to movement
“Mettons la violence hors-jeu” aims to be a catalyst for change. ACFF calls on every stakeholder to recognise their role and actively commit to a more respectful, safe and inclusive sport. The goal: shift mindsets and keep violence off the field.
“Respect is a rule of the game—let’s make it play, everywhere, every time.”
